What happens in a Sunday service?
Each Lord's Day worship service is composed of the same five elements:
- Scripture Reading
- Singing
- Prayer
- Expository sermon from the Bible
- Communion
The elements of our weekly worship gatherings on the Lord's Day are governed by what we see in Scripture. This is known as the Regulative Principle of Worship.
Throughout the Scriptures in Exodus, Leviticus, Hebrews, and Revelation we see God's people worshipping God in the form of Covenant Renewal. In the Old Covenant, there were three kinds of sacrifices that God often required His people to offer together in worship, and when they are mentioned together they appear in the same order (Lev. 9; 2 Chron. 29:20-36).
The Guilt Offering (Leviticus 17)
The Ascension Offering (Leviticus 16:24-25)
The Peace Offering (Deuteronomy 12:17-18)
1. Call
The church is a gathering of those who have been called out of the world. God is the one who calls His people to worship, He is the One who initiates and calls His people to worship. The pastor reads a Scripture at the start of the service as an invitation to God's people to bring their worship to the Triune God. We then have the privilege of responding to His gracious invitation by offering our worship to Him.
2. Confession
This corresponds to the Guilt Offering.
In order to worship God properly, our sins have to be dealt with. We confess our sins to God and then the pastor reads a Scripture assuring us of God's pardon in Christ. We are reminded that we do not simply approach God in worhsip without a mediator. The blood and righteousness of Jesus is the only plea we have before God. With Christ as our mediator, we approach a throne of grace with confidence and bring our worship to God. We confess our faith together in song, prayer, or a corporate reading of what we believe.
3. Consecration
This corresponds to the Ascension/Burnt Offering. The whole animal was consumed by fire and ascended into heaven in the smoke.
Expository preaching is the ordained means in which God speaks to His people. The congregation is to come ready to hear from God. In response to the preaching of God's Word, we offer ourselves as living sacrifices to the Lord (Romans 12:1). God equips His people for Christian living and Kingdom service by His Spirit, through His Word. We devote ourselves to the public reading of Scripture and to the verse-by-verse expository preaching of His Word, preaching the whole counsel of God in season and out of season (1 Tim. 4:13; 2 Tim. 4:1-5). We respond by raising our voices together in song.
4. Communion
This corresponds to the Peace Offering. The worshiper partook of the meat of the offering.
Having been called to worship, having confessed our sins, having been assured of His pardon, and having been sanctified by the preaching of the Word of God, we are now invited to the Lord's Table to enjoy communion with Christ and His people. We are spiritually nourished at the Table and reminded of the promises of God in the gospel. Communion is a time of reflection but also a feast of joyful celebration as we eat this meal with the people of God and proclaim his death until He comes (1 Cor. 11:26). We are reminded in communion that we who were once His enemies are now invited to His table. We are reminded that fellowship has been restored through the finished work of Christ and the promises of God belong to us in Christ.
5. Commission
The church is a sent people. God sends His people on mission with His blessing. The pastor reads a benediction from the Bible and charges us to go into the world as sheep among wolves, light among darkness, to take the gospel to the lost and to glorify God this next week in thought, word, and deed.

Kids?
During the worship service:
Our Sunday morning worship services are family-integrated which means children stay with their families during the service. Clipboards are available with crayons and an activity sheet, including a place for kids to take "Sermon Notes" in boxes where they are asked to write down words they do not know, questions they have, etc. We know that children can make noise sometimes, but when we hear the children we rejoice that they are with us!
We have a staffed nursery available for the young children (0-4). Our nursery volunteers have completed criminal record/vulnerable sector police checks. We prioritize the safety of your children!
Sunday school (after the worship service):
Following the worship service, kids are invited to attend a short Sunday School class while the adults have their Connect Time.
